Community Service Projects – Fall 2020:
March to the Polls Volunteers — Completed
March to the Polls (MTTP) is a nonpartisan organization devoted to encouraging young people 18-24 to register and vote. Before the virus closed the schools in the spring, volunteers were visiting local high school government classes and making presentations to encourage voter registration and to help the students fill out the forms. Now that is not possible, but there is still a great need to reach this age group, which historically votes in very low numbers. This volunteer signup link lists multiple activities in which you can become involved (both in-person and virtually) to assist this effort. Please take a moment to read the questionnaire and see where you can help. After signing up, you will be notified. Open the link to sign up: volunteersignup.org/MM8TW If you have questions, contact Marsha Abeson.
Girls Inc. Day of the Girl Virtual Celebration – Completed
The 8th annual Girls Inc. Day of the Girl Celebration on Friday, October 9! It’s a day when groups come together under the shared goals of advancing rights and opportunities for girls everywhere. AAUW Tarrant County Branch is not participating in the 2020 virtual event. However, Girls Inc. is asking you to help take the Day of the Girl message across Tarrant County and beyond. Celebrate with your kids, small youth groups, your colleagues or girlfriends. They have planned a Virtual Spirit Week, beginning October 3rd, to highlight each of the six Girls Inc. Bill of Rights. They invite you to participate in the week long activities on social media, which will include giveaways. Then join in the virtual event on October 9th, that promises to be filled with the passion, inspiration and dynamic energy that so many have come to love.
Please register today at https://girlsinctarrant.org/events/dayofthegirl2020/ . Your registration includes an event t-shirt and mask.
“She Votes” Presentation by Girls. Inc – Completed
Girls Inc. held a virtual “She Votes” presentation in September. It was specifically for Girls Inc. members, but the girls’ families were encouraged to join them. We were invited to participate because of our interest in education and equity, and they see our role as providing info on the “how, why, and where” of voting. Our older demographic has a history of voting and our voices will be heard; we were there to encourage their participation so their voices would be heard as well.
